BALCONY RAILINGS

In this example of a builders risk loss, liquid mortar debris falling from an adjacent construction site crane extensively damaged glass railings on the east tower face. It was determined through our material research that the hardened mortar could be removed without replacing the glass or causing further deterioration.
A specialized safety assembly designed to withstand code specified wind and impact loads, installed at the edge of elevated exterior spaces. Railings are also an aesthetic component and are integral to the design of a building. These components can be fabricated from a variety of materials, including glass, steel or aluminum tubes, along with other materials, to match or complement the exterior façade of the building.

Investigations of balcony railing systems include the evaluation of windborne debris, impact damage, construction and installation defects, glass material defects and maintenance related damage to surfaces.
